Established in 2001, WCM has grown to become one of Western's largest clubs.

An Intro to WCM

Our History

Originally established as the “Western Sales and Trading Club”, WCM has undergone a vast transformation over the past 20 years, expanding into international trips and conferences. Though our focus has broadened, our roots are grounded in educating students on finance and thus maintaining our original mandate.

Our Mission

Our mission is to educate, develop and provide real-world opportunities for all students at Western to explore their interest in capital markets and thrive in the world of finance. This means integrating the various facets of our club into a cohesive platform that encourages students to explore their passions and participate frequently, in turn building their confidence and abilities.

Educational Seminars

Every week, our Educations team presents an interactive, in-depth seminar for our members. Our 15-week holistic curriculum is designed to build an understanding of the workings of the capital markets, the forces that drive pricing and valuation, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance and economics, while exploring the various career opportunities available throughout the financial services industry. Each seminar includes:

  • A comprehensive topic break-down with case studies
  • Small group break-out discussions to share your thoughts
  • A question & answer period

International Trips & Conferences

WCM has historically hosted four major international trips to New York City, San Francisco, London and Toronto. These trips are designed to build on our Career Development Workshops and Educational Seminars, and enable our members to build their network, meet several firms in high finance, explore global financial hubs and more.

Additionally, our newly-expanded Women in Finance Conference provides young professionals with the opportunity to connect with professionals in finance, meet like-minded students, and kickstart a career in banking, private equity and more.

Mentorship & Development

Our exclusive mentorship program pairs students with upper-years that have successfully entered the world of finance. Our collaborative approach enables students to connect and gain valuable insight into their academic and career aspirations. Further, our career development workshops build practical skills that are invaluable during the recruiting cycle and on the job.

Our Workshops Include:

  • PowerPoint 101
  • Excel 101
  • Intensive Recruiting Workshops tailored to 1st, 2nd & 3rd Year Opportunities

Community & Global Network

At WCM, we strive to build a tight-knit community here at Western while also providing strong connections to the business world across the globe. Our close ties with alumni provide for strategic partnerships, in turn creating opportunities for guest speakers, networking mixers and office tours.

As part of WCM, you'll have a chance to get involved in countless ways, including presenting alongside our Educations team, writing for our Medium blog, representing Western on our International Trips, and of course joining our Executive Team. We look forward to meeting you.
